Aikido, the Way of Harmony, was founded by Morihei Ueshiba in early 20th century Japan. Its physical form comes from traditional styles of ju-jitsu as well as weapons arts. However its ultimate goal is not the destruction of an opponent but rather personal development and the peaceful resolution of conflict. The Memorial University Aikikai has been teaching Aikido for over 30 years and is a long-standing member of the Canadian Aikido Federation. Our membership includes not only students, faculty and staff of Memorial University but also other residents of St. John’s and the surrounding communities. We welcome all who are interested in Aikido to come and train with us. Classes are held at SJMAC on Tue, Wed, Thur, and Sun.
